Here is a link that tells you about Apps that you can use if you’re a pet owner, for your smartphone…http://ow.ly/3G2mu

My husband had to clip our Aussie, Abby this weekend because sometimes her fur gets in the way of her bathroom duties. I like this review of clippers I found at http://ow.ly/3G1vY

Dog Park Con’t.

Back to the previous Dog Park Post: The Gorgeous Border Collie we met is a rescue dog. Apparently, he was left in a wooded area at three months old. His rescuer has a few dogs and looked out in to her back yard one day to see this puppy trotting out of the woods. He was skinny and bedraggled so she helped him regain his health and fostered him. His current owner found him online and it was love at first site. He has an unusually thick black coat and has a heavier bone structure than most Borders I’ve seen. I actually mistook him for a Bernese Mountain dog puppy from a distance. You never know who you’re gonna meet at the Dog Park.

Dog Park, Dog Park

What a lovely day to go to the dog park with Abby. She met a few new friends, did a lot of sniffing and got some exercise. There were no mean dogs there, just friendlies and their owners. I met a lady from Massachusetts who told me the story of her beautiful border collie, Travis. I’ll get to that in the next post cause’ it’s gettin’ late and it’s time to “hit the hay” as it were. (Yes, I was born in a barn!)

Etsy Shop Open

Yes, I only have one item listed but it’s a start. You know any new account set up on the internet takes a while. Anyway, I think Etsy.com will be a better venue to sell artwork on than Ebay, although I have sold work to customers there as well.

They gave me a specific web address for my shop….http://www.etsy.com/shop/1paintedpet

If you check it out, please “heart me” by clicking on the shop name on the right side of the screen and then clicking on the “see who hearts this” on the bottom left. If this is incorrect please email me, our “IT Department” is still tweaking the site.

7 Useful Dog Training Tips by M. Ripke

There are some dog owners who prefer to teach or train their pets themselves rather than hiring professional trainers to do it for them. This is a good choice since the owners can have lots of bonding times with their pet dogs. The only problem is when the dog owners do not have the necessary knowledge or experience in training dogs. Instead of making their pets obedient and well-behaved, wrong training techniques can make dogs mean or aggressive towards others.

1. Patience is a virtue. The dog owner who trains his pet using the right dog training techniques will have a lifetime of benefits. A dog that is trained using the right techniques will not be harmful and cause trouble to the family. The top tip for dog training is to be patient. You should not give up right away when your dog fails to obey you. Training your dog will definitely require a lot of time and effort, but it will all be worth it in the long run.

2. Observe a reward policy. The second dog training tip is to reward the dog only when it does the right thing. Make it a habit to give something to your dog after it obeys your instruction. For instance, give food to your dog when it sits after telling it to do so. Your dog will obey you the next time.

3. Do not abuse your dog in any way. Third in the list of dog training tips is to never punish your dog by shouting at it or hitting it. Punishing your dog will make it afraid or angry. This will cause you to have a harder time dealing with your dog.

4. Make the training easy. One of the most important dog training techniques you can use is to make the training session short and fun. Almost everyone gets bored with long lessons – even dogs. The ideal training session would be 10 to 20 minutes. It would also be better if you can train your dog more than once every day. Three times per day is enough and that would only take a total of one hour. It may include reviews of previous training sessions or new tricks. Like students, reviews can also be useful your dog to remember and retain what you teach.

5. Study dog training. The fifth dog training technique is for you to have proper knowledge about dogs and their behaviors. Professional dog trainers say that dogs of one breed have different behavior than other breeds. By researching, you will learn that the dog could be best trained as early as eight weeks old. You can also know what tricks are hard or easy for your dog to learn through research.

Abby the Aussie and Lyme Disease

Beware of lyme disease in your dog. Abby contracted it in south-central Penna. several years ago and it went undiagnosed by two vets. She kept coming up lame and I was told that she had arthritis in her back legs, although she was relatively young. Because nobody tested her for lyme, she ended up with permanent joint damage similar to the effects of arthritis and requires medication daily. Just ask the vet to do a routine lyme test because obvious symptoms might not show up for a long time after the tick bite. I would not want any other dog to go through what Abby goes through every day. Here is some good info I found…Lyme Disease Borreliosis in Dogs.
